Job Summary

The role involves executing specialized maintenance tasks within the Public Utilities Department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conducts various maintenance activities related to water utility projects; oversees the upkeep of facilities, machinery, and pipelines at water treatment plants and associated stations; diagnoses routine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and other operational issues; performs system cleaning and flushing; maintains, calibrates, and tests equipment; manages wellfield drawdowns; resets telemetry systems; replaces high service and chemical pumps; operates sludge handling equipment.
  • Responds to emergency calls during on-call duty; repairs main and service line breaks; assesses service requests, estimates water loss, and determines necessary manpower, equipment, and materials; coordinates with utility services for location verification; flushes systems post-repair; collects water samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Adheres to safety protocols, utilizes personal protective equipment, and monitors the work environment to ensure safety for all personnel.
  • Completes and processes various forms, reports, and documentation related to maintenance activities, billing, and operational assessments.
  • Engages with supervisors, colleagues, contractors, utility companies, and the public to coordinate work, discuss project statuses, share information, and resolve issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with necessary endorsements.
  • Completion of the Sacramento Water Distribution Operator correspondence course within six months of hire.
  • Certification in Backflow Prevention Testing & Assembly within six months of hire.
  • Class 3 Water Distribution Technician certification within 18 months of hire.
  • IMSA Work Zone Safety certification and Florida Department of Transportation Traffic Safety certification within twelve months of hire.

  • Essential employees may be required to work during emergencies as determined by the County's Administrative Office.
