The City of Dover is seeking a dedicated individual to take on the role of a Working Foreman, responsible for skilled tasks in collaboration with the Utilities Supervisor. This position plays a vital role in the management and upkeep of the wastewater collection and water distribution systems.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, 40-hour work week, non-exempt role with a pay range of $31.60 to $45.74 per hour.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision: Oversee and direct the utilities crew in their daily tasks, often working alongside them on-site.
- Planning and Implementation: Assist in the organization and execution of the work order system, ensuring quality service in water and sewer operations.
- Training: Facilitate the training of team members in maintenance, construction, and repair tasks related to public works facilities.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect and repair various components of the water and sewer systems to ensure optimal functionality.
- Record Keeping: Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, maintenance activities, and water supply metrics.
- Utility Location: Identify the locations of essential utility lines prior to excavation work.
- Problem Resolution: Respond promptly to service complaints and implement corrective measures as per established protocols.
- Equipment Operation: Operate various trucks and heavy machinery for loading, hauling, and unloading tasks.
- Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, reporting any defects to the supervisor.
- Emergency Response: Act as a Heavy Equipment Operator during emergencies requiring excavation work.
- Inventory Management: Keep track of materials and parts necessary for the maintenance of wastewater and water systems.
- Construction Tasks: Participate in hands-on labor for construction and maintenance projects, including pavement cutting and pipe repairs.
- Water System Services: Service and install various components such as fire hydrants and drinking fountains.
- Pump Operations: Operate and maintain pumps for water supply and sewer lift systems.
- Safety Compliance: Identify and report safety hazards and equipment malfunctions.
- General Maintenance: Assist in the upkeep of water distribution and wastewater systems as needed.
- Emergency Availability: Maintain readiness to respond to emergency situations as required.
- Snow Removal: Participate in snow removal efforts and other emergency response activities.
- Safe Work Practices: Adhere to safety protocols associated with assigned tasks.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess considerable knowledge of construction and maintenance methods for water distribution and wastewater systems, as well as safety precautions relevant to utility maintenance. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with four years of progressively responsible experience in utility operations. Valid NH CDL-B with air brake and tanker endorsements is necessary, and certifications in Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution are preferred.
