The City of Dover is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Working Foreman in our Utilities Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supervising and directing the work of our utilities crew, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of our wastewater collection and water distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise and oversee the work of the utilities crew, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  2. Assist with the planning, scheduling, and implementation of work orders, ensuring that our systems are running smoothly and efficiently.
  3. Train and assist employees in performing maintenance, construction, and repair tasks related to our water and sewer systems.
  4. Inspect and repair booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, water mains, drainage systems, and sewer systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
  5. Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, water supply, consumption, and other relevant data.
  6. Determine the locations of underground utilities, such as gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines, prior to excavation.
  7. Respond quickly to customer complaints and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
  8. Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment, including trucks, backhoes, and other construction and maintenance equipment.
  9. Perform routine inspections and maintenance on assigned equipment, referring defects or needed repairs to the supervisor.
  10. Communicate effectively with employees, contractors, the public, and other departments to ensure smooth operations and effective problem-solving.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by courses in wastewater treatment and collection and water treatment and distribution.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in operations and maintenance of wastewater collection and/or water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Valid NH CDL-B with air brake and tanker endorsements, CDL-A with endorsements preferred.
  • Certificate in Wastewater Collection, Grade IV and NH Water Distribution, Grade III.
  • Water Treatment, Grade I and/or Wastewater Treatment, Grade I certification preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and snow.
  • Work in confined spaces, such as manholes and tunnels.
  • Be exposed to hazardous materials, such as chemicals and fuels.
