POSITION OVERVIEW

Sciens Building Solutions is on the lookout for a skilled Senior Fire Alarm Systems Technician with expertise in programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting. This role involves close collaboration with our sales team, field project teams, and clients to ensure effective design and flawless installation of our fire alarm systems. This pivotal role within our expanding team demands meticulous attention to detail throughout project execution. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with both customers and colleagues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review system designs and coordinate with engineering, project management, and sales teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Conduct field surveys and maintain daily logs of project activities.
  • Program and commission advanced fire alarm systems, ensuring final approval from clients and relevant authorities.
  • Engage with authorities for testing and resolving minor issues during final system tests.
  • Create comprehensive commissioning and inspection reports in compliance with NFPA standards.
  • Handle complex troubleshooting and implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure timely project delivery within budget constraints.
  • Program systems using laptop computers.
  • Oversee project and vehicle inventory management.
  • Demonstrate equipment operation to clients and instruct them on proper usage and response to system alerts.
  • Manage onsite projects, focusing on safety, quality, and performance.
  • Interpret smoke reports and program requirements for smoke control systems.
  • Provide mentorship and expertise to fellow technicians.
  • Train and develop service technicians on equipment and company protocols.
  • Efficiently manage job scheduling and progress with a strong emphasis on quality.
  • Determine placement of notification and detection systems in the field.
  • Adhere to industry standards and Sciens safety policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least five years of experience in a technician role within the fire-life safety sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of fire alarm circuit integrity and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to independently program advanced system platforms using a laptop.
  • Proficient understanding of fire alarm control units and field equipment connections.
  • Capability to make installation decisions regarding notification and detection placements.
  • Ability to interpret smoke reports and program smoke control system requirements.
  • Skilled in reading fire system design drawings for installation and programming.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with onsite contractors.
  • Advanced knowledge of NFPA 72 code for fire alarm system installation.
  • Familiarity with Section 907 of the International Fire Code and state-adopted fire codes.
  • Understanding of Section 909 of the International Building Code.
  • Knowledge of Article 760 of NFPA 70 for fire systems installation.
  • Awareness of state, local, and contract-specific certifications.
  • NICET II certification or higher preferred.
  • Knowledge of state fire procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety standards and ability to obtain OSHA 10 certification.
  • Customer-oriented with strong project and people management skills.
  • Excellent organizational, decision-making, and communication abilities.
  • Physically fit to perform the demands of the job, including lifting and working at heights.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
  • Must pass background checks and pre-employment drug screenings.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
