Hours for this position are from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Workdays and hours may vary. A negative drug screening is a prerequisite for employment. This role operates under the supervision of the Director of the Behavioral Crisis Stabilization Unit, providing support in the assessment, development, and execution of behavioral services utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis and Positive Behavior Support methodologies for individuals admitted to the unit.
The incumbent must accurately observe and document individual target behaviors to facilitate assessment, treatment interventions, consultation, and staff training. Responsibilities include implementing function-based interventions as outlined in the individual’s behavior support plan, which is crafted by the Director or a certified professional. Continuous data collection and analysis are essential to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment strategies.
Effective communication with individuals, colleagues, clinicians, medical providers, and supervisors is crucial, whether through direct interaction, phone, or written correspondence. This position also entails providing daily direct care support, training in skill development, and assisting with the implementation and oversight of ICF/IDD program activities for individuals on the unit. Weekend and holiday shifts are part of the job requirements.
In instances of low census or staffing needs within the Behavioral Crisis Stabilization Unit, the individual may be temporarily reassigned to another area to fulfill direct care responsibilities as necessary. All employees are expected to collaborate harmoniously with colleagues to deliver efficient and effective customer service, utilizing available time to assist others in completing work assignments and performing additional tasks as required.
Contributing to a positive work environment through a courteous and helpful demeanor towards staff, clients, and the public is essential. Adherence to conduct standards regarding leave usage and punctuality is expected. The physical demands of this role include the ability to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, and stand for extended periods, as well as lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive behaviors using trained techniques. The ability to observe and react to residents in distress is also necessary.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Required Criteria:
- One year of experience in providing or supervising care for individuals in a mental health or intellectual disability facility, or in an independent or transitional living environment.
- Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board must be obtained within three months of employment.
- Preferred Criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, special education, or a related human services field; or
- Certification as a Registered Behavior Technician through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board; or
- Knowledge of intellectual disabilities, mental health, positive behavior support, essential lifestyle planning, and person-centered support programs; experience in delivering services to individuals with disabilities.
- One year of experience in planning, organizing, and directing departmental or programmatic work. Education may be substituted as determined by the relevant agency.
- Staff operating a motor vehicle must possess a valid driver's license. Candidates must pass a drug screening test and a law enforcement security clearance as per agency policies.
