Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team in the Emergency Department. As a key member of our patient-centered care team, you will provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or medical providers. Your primary duties will include assisting patients with activities of daily living, collecting specimens, performing venipuncture/phlebotomy, and inserting intravenous (IV) catheters.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care activities under the supervision of the nursing or medical staff, including assisting patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene.
  • Collect specimens, perform venipuncture/phlebotomy, obtain EKGs, and insert intravenous (IV) catheters, change IV sites and dressings, and inspect IV sites.
  • Assist in the measurement and documentation of patient's vital signs, height and weight, pulse oximetry, point of care and waived testing, visual acuity, and other pertinent data or information in the patient's health record.
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of each patient in the delivery of services, including performing patient observation duty, 1:1 observation, and safe application of restraints.
  • Prepare patients to be seen by providers, assist providers and registered nurses, round on patients based on established standards, and report concerns from patients/families to the registered nurse and care team.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of patient environment, including distributing and changing linen, removing used meal trays, checking bed/stretcher siderails and safety restraints, and restocking supplies in patient rooms/bays.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant from the relevant district.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • 1-2 years' experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • Experience as a care technician, emergency medical technician or paramedic preferred.
  • General Health Care experience in acute care, long-term care or other setting preferred.
  • CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) certification preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $19.17 - $31.36.
