Position Overview:

Assist the Senior Plant Manager in managing operations by orchestrating daily functions within the scheduling, materials management, and shipping sectors to enhance productivity and optimize profitability. Support various plant operations, production, distribution, administrative tasks, and human resources activities to meet established goals either directly or through subordinate leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This position reports directly to the Senior Plant Manager and oversees 3 direct reports along with 45 indirect reports.
  • Ensure that all designated areas fulfill customer requirements efficiently and promptly.
  • Coordinate efforts among manufacturing, production control, quality assurance, procurement, and logistics to meet customer needs.
  • Facilitate effective communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Manage, mentor, and assess employee performance to achieve or exceed established objectives.
  • Regularly communicate departmental, divisional, and company-wide updates to all personnel.
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels to align costs with necessary materials for production schedules.
  • Contribute to the development of the site’s strategic plans, annual operating plans, and budgeting processes.
  • Encourage high morale and initiative among department staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Role Insights:

  • Establish organizational policies.
  • Provide training as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in materials-related subjects.
  • Guide and develop talent within the materials sector across the organization.
  • Drive global Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) through the Central Planning department.
  • Play a key role in manufacturing strategies, capacities, and footprint development.
  • Act as the ERP system SME for all procurement matters including scheduling and logistics.
  • Set procurement policies (MRP, e-Kanban, discrete purchase orders, etc.).
  • Lead lean transformation initiatives in material flow across facilities.
  • Ensure fair and consistent adherence to all company policies regarding employee discipline, performance evaluations, promotions, and terminations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to meeting customer delivery expectations.
  • Commit to executing the master production schedule and both short and long-term capacity plans.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to information flow, data collection, and existing computer systems.
  • Possible domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications for Ideal Candidates:

  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, an Associate's Degree with 8+ years of experience, or 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Five years of experience in operations management or supervisory roles in an industrial environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with all organizational levels.
  • Financial acumen.
  • Drive for excellence with integrity and a passion for delivering outstanding results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree.
  • Prior exposure to Lean manufacturing principles and tools.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

This role primarily operates in an office setting. The incumbent will spend extended periods sitting, engaging in phone conversations, attending meetings, and interacting in person. The work environment is often fast-paced and demanding. Some travel may be necessary. Manual tasks include using hands for filing, handling paperwork, and operating a computer. Occasionally, the employee may need to move within the office. The incumbent must adhere to ergonomic guidelines such as proper monitor placement, keyboard positioning, and wrist support. Some lifting of up to 15 pounds may be required. Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
