Emergency Room Technician

The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) plays a vital role in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. This position requires a team player who can prioritize tasks effectively, provide excellent patient service, and work independently with critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities- Assist professional nurses in delivering patient care, including monitoring vital signs, providing emergency care, and performing point of care testing.
- Transport patients and equipment, and assist with medical equipment, such as measuring and fitting patients with casts, crutches, immobilizers, and splints.
- Assist with ambulation and positioning, and transport medical samples under RN direction.
- Support during procedures, such as eye lavage, ear irrigation, dressing changes, and pelvic exam specimen collection.
- Relay patient/family observations and concerns to RN, and address patient call lights/requests promptly.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality, and adapt to patient needs, including modifying tasks for different ages and developmental abilities.
- Accurately document patient care activities and procedures, and ensure rooms, supplies, carts, and oxygen tanks are stocked.
- Perform quality control on designated equipment, and report issues to RN.
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
- One of the following certifications or statuses is required for hire: Current EMT or ERT certification upon hire, Current Paramedic Certification, Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire, or Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program, or Six months of recent direct patient care experience in an acute care, long-term care, or home care setting.
