Emergency Room Technician

The Emergency Room Technician (ERT) plays a vital role in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies. This position requires a strong focus on providing excellent patient service in every interaction.
Key Responsibilities- Assist professional nurses in delivering patient care, including transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and managing supplies.
- Monitor vital signs and provide emergency care as needed.
- Perform point of care testing, IV setup, IV discontinuation, enema, suture removal, restraint application, catheterization, and 12 lead EKG as advised by RN.
- Transport patients using wheelchair and cart.
- Assist with medical equipment, including measuring and fitting patients with casts, crutches, immobilizers, and splints.
- Assist with ambulation and positioning, helping patients move and position themselves.
- Transport medical samples under RN direction.
- Support during procedures, including eye lavage, ear irrigation, dressing changes, and pelvic exam specimen collection.
- Relay patient/family observations and concerns to RN.
- Address patient call lights/requests promptly.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
- Adapt to patient needs, modifying tasks as needed for different ages and developmental abilities.
- Adhere to correct procedures.
- Support resuscitation efforts with CPR and bag/valve mask.
- Act as a patient safety sitter and report observations to RN.
- Record patient care activities and procedures clearly, concisely, accurately, and promptly.
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
- One of the following certifications or statuses is required for hire: Current EMT or ERT certification upon hire, Current Paramedic Certification, Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire, or Current enrollment in an LPN, RN, or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
- Six months of recent direct patient care experience in an acute care, long-term care, or home care setting.
- Previous Emergency Room experience of 1 or more years as an Emergency Room Scribe, paramedic, ERT, EMT, EDT, or ED EMS.
- Current CNA or NST experience of 1 or more years.
- Paramedic, EMT, ERT, LPN, CNA, PCA licensure or certification.
