Emergency Room Technician

The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care in our dynamic healthcare environment. As an EDT, you will assist professional nurses in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and re-ordering and stocking supplies.
Responsibilities- Provides patient care by assisting the professional nurse in patient care activities, including monitoring vital signs, providing emergency care, and assisting with patient care as directed by the RN.
- Transports patients by wheelchair and cart, and assists patients with ambulation and positioning.
- Assists doctors and nurses during medical procedures and/or collecting specimens, following proper technique.
- Informs RN of patient/family observations and concerns, and promptly responds to patient call lights/requests.
- Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality, and performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients' ages and developmental abilities.
- Assists in resuscitation with appropriate CPR and bag/valve mask, and provides for patient safety.
- Documents patient care activities and procedures on the nursing records, ensuring documentation is clear, concise, accurate, and timely.
- Works with charge nurse to coordinate the scheduling of tests, lab work, diagnostic tests, clinical appointments, other department procedures schedules, and consultations.
- Restocks room, supplies, carts, and oxygen tanks, and assists with patient room clean-up between patients.
- Completes room and cart checklist, and performs quality control checks on designated pieces of equipment.
- Reports discrepancies and malfunctions to RN, and transports medication from delivery to Emergency room department to a Registered Nurse or unit Medication Room when requested.
The EDT role requires a strong foundation in patient care, with a focus on delivering exceptional service and support to patients and families. To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
- One or more of the following: Current EMT or ERT certification upon hire (does not need to be maintained throughout employment), Current Paramedic Certification (does not need to be maintained throughout employment), Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire (certification does not need to be maintained throughout employment).
- Six months of recent direct patient care experience in an acute care, long-term care, or home care setting (appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, or Resident Assistant).
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable for this role:
- Previous Emergency Room experience of 1 year or more as an Emergency Room Scribe, paramedic, ERT, EMT, EDT, or ED EMS.
- Current CNA or NST experience of 1 year or more.
