Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing Family Support Services, including implementing, coordinating, and engaging families in the process; providing direct case management services to families enrolled in the ITCN Program in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with families to enhance the quality of their lives and their communities.
  • Conduct outreach and recruitment activities to engage families in the program.
  • Provide orientation on the program's philosophy and services.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support families' efforts to reach their goals.
  • Communicate effectively with families using verbal and nonverbal messages and reflective listening skills.
Family Support Services
  • Develop strength-based assessments with families to identify their goals, strengths, resources, and support networks.
  • Develop individualized family plans in partnership with families to address their needs and goals.
  • Facilitate families' problem-solving and teach problem-solving skills.
  • Advocate for families and support them in advocating for themselves.
  • Follow up with families on their progress toward meeting their goals and make revisions as needed.
Community Engagement
  • Identify common interests and needs of parents to plan group activities and educational opportunities.
  • Work with parent groups to plan and facilitate group activities and educational opportunities.
  • Provide and/or coordinate training and educational opportunities for parents.
  • Engage parents in volunteering, community services, and other ways of contributing to program activities and services.
Family Literacy Services
  • Work with other program staff to support interactive literacy activities between parents and their children.
  • Provide training for parents on how to be the primary teacher for their children and full partners in their education.
  • Assist parents as adult learners to recognize and address their own literacy needs.
  • Link and support parents in literacy training that contributes to their self-sufficiency.
Program Coordination
  • Coordinate and integrate Head Start services to enhance their effectiveness.
  • Participate in and facilitate case conferences to promote service coordination.
  • Share knowledge of health, mental health, disabilities, and child development to ensure holistic service delivery.
  • Promote and support parent involvement and leadership throughout the program.
Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle with required state insurance coverage.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience working in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Mental Health, Family Studies, or related field.
  • Associates of Arts from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Early Childhood Education, or Family Development Credential with one year full-time teaching experience in a Pre-School setting and familiarity with a Non-Profit, Public Sector, or Community Action Program, preferably Head Start or related Pre-School Program.
