Licensed Vocational Nurse I

Position Overview:
Under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse or physician, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) delivers nursing care in alignment with the legal scope of practice and established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This role embodies the values and strategic objectives of Kaiser Permanente.
Exhibits quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice, treating co-workers, patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team with dignity and respect.
Key Responsibilities:
Adheres to Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities, and relevant state, federal, and local regulations.
Conducts patient care tasks within the scope of competency, considering the age-related needs of patients as directed by healthcare professionals, following established protocols, policies, and procedures.
Assists medical staff with special procedures, minor surgical interventions, and diagnostic examinations.
Evaluates and monitors patient conditions, notifying the physician or healthcare professional for further action.
Prepares and administers medications as per physician orders, adhering to established protocols.
Maintains medical equipment and supplies, identifying and arranging for repairs as necessary.
Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control as outlined in the Infection Control Manual.
Oversees patient flow and directs ancillary personnel as required.
Provides medical information and education to patients, following established guidelines.
Documents relevant patient information, assessments, and nursing procedures in accordance with established protocols.
Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Patient Care Procedures:
Clarifies the purpose and process of examinations, tests, and medical procedures to patients, adhering to established guidelines.
Instructs patients on general health and basic self-care practices.
Reviews, explains, and clarifies physician orders with patients.
Instructs patients on the use of home medical equipment.
Administers first aid as needed.
Applies basic orthopedic devices as prescribed by the physician.
Executes treatments such as urinary catheterization, bladder irrigations, suction procedures, and throat irrigations.
Follows standard infection control procedures.
Administers enemas and initiates emergency procedures, including basic CPR, providing emergency treatments as necessary.
Monitors patient vital signs and observes for any reactions during and after procedures.
Participates in the development of nursing care plans and performs surgical preparations.
Prepares and positions patients for various procedures and examinations.
Provides therapeutic care as ordered by the physician.
Maintains a clean work area and monitors the supply of oxygen and gas tanks.
Completes laboratory and radiology requisitions as well as specialized test forms.
Responds to Code Blue situations and assists in emergency protocols.
Administrative Duties:
Requests medical records and schedules patient appointments.
Checks in patients and prepares outgoing correspondence.
Maintains department logs and updates user manuals.
Orders medical supplies and equipment, ensuring proper storage and distribution.
Participates in departmental meetings and training new staff on equipment and procedures.
Assumes additional responsibilities as directed.
