Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Properties and Crafts Fabricator to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin. As a key member of our Fabrication and Academic Production Department, you will be responsible for producing high-quality scenic elements, surfaces, and installations for our events and productions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabricate elements according to specifications, using a range of materials and techniques, including wood, plastics, metal, paper, fabric, and found objects.
  • Construct various components using hand tools and power tools, such as nailers, sanders, routers, grinders, saws, and drills.
  • Perform cutting, bending, and welding of steel forms using the GMAW process.
  • Collaborate with students and staff in an educational environment, providing instruction and guidance as needed.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to industry standards.
  • Experience in faux and found object craft construction, with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility in project assignment and ability to manage requests and changes.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude under pressure and ability to work independently.
  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in film set or theater production shops, with a focus on scenic construction and installation.
  • Experience with furniture construction and upholstery, with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience with sculpture, with a focus on creative problem-solving and innovation.
  • Welding and metalwork experience, with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Experience in craft problem-solving, with a focus on creative solutions and attention to detail.
  • Detailed and artistic eye, with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Experience in electronics and digital fabrication, with a focus on innovation and creativity.
Working Conditions
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Use of manual dexterity and hand tools.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
Hourly Range

$20.00, depending on qualifications.
