Position Overview

Sign-on Bonus: $10,000

Role Summary: The Lead Fetal Sonographer, under the guidance of the Chief Imaging Technologist and in collaboration with a physician, is responsible for executing a comprehensive array of diagnostic ultrasound and intervention procedures. This role includes mentoring and overseeing ultrasound Sonographers, participating in clinical research initiatives, and providing education to medical personnel on the principles and applications of sonographic technology.

Qualifications:

  • Active registration as a diagnostic medical sonographer (RDMS) in obstetrics and fetal echocardiography.
  • Certification in nuchal translucency through the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) or the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review Program (NTQR).
  • Completion of a Diploma/Certificate/GED.

Experience:

A minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in diagnostic obstetrical ultrasound is required.

Work Schedule:

Full Time (40 hours), Day Shift from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Knowledge Requirements:

Extensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pathology concerning fetal conditions diagnosed via prenatal ultrasound is essential. Additionally, knowledge of how fetal disease presentations evolve through different trimesters of pregnancy is crucial.

Familiarity with specific ultrasound examination details necessary for assessing the severity of fetal conditions prior to treatment is required.

Understanding of severity staging systems for various fetal conditions is necessary.

Knowledge of available fetal therapies for addressing prenatal anomalies and conditions is essential.

Awareness of ultrasound indicators of complications following both invasive and non-invasive fetal therapies is required.

Thorough knowledge of imaging standards to document changes in fetal conditions post-therapy is necessary.

Understanding of fetal development physiology and the ultrasound assessments needed to evaluate these parameters is required.

Skill Set:

Proficiency in high-resolution two-dimensional ultrasound scanning is mandatory.

Expertise in pulse wave and color Doppler examinations of the entire fetal circulation, extending beyond standard obstetric ultrasound, is essential.

Proficiency in structural, functional, and specialized fetal echocardiography for diagnosing fetal cardiac anomalies and monitoring fetal heart function is required.

Ability to perform first trimester echocardiography is necessary.

Capability to obtain additional views beyond standard OB ultrasound examinations and apply various imaging protocols (ISUOG protocols for fetal neurosonography, echocardiography, and monitoring of multiple pregnancies) is required.

Ability to provide ultrasound guidance for invasive fetal procedures and intraoperative monitoring of fetal well-being during complex surgeries is essential.

Skill in synthesizing ultrasound examination findings and presenting them logically to the fetal therapy attending physician in relation to specific fetal conditions is necessary.

Competence in generating ultrasound reports that accurately capture critical findings, even in complex cases, is required.

The Lead Fetal Sonographer will operate within the Center for Fetal Therapy, Labor & Delivery, and the operating room, primarily serving a patient population with over 90% complicated pregnancies involving fetal anomalies.
