The OPPORTUNITY
Builders Mutual is in search of a seasoned legal professional to fill the pivotal role of Vice President/General Counsel. This newly established position will provide essential legal guidance to the Company, CEO, Board, and Executive management. In this executive capacity, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal functions, which encompass general legal counsel, governance, contract oversight, regulatory adherence, litigation management, and coordination with external legal advisors.
As a prominent leader within our organization, the Vice President/General Counsel will play a crucial role in steering our legal initiatives. We seek a candidate with extensive legal expertise, adaptability, and innovative thinking, coupled with strong strategic and analytical capabilities and a proven history in legal administration. Your responsibilities will include not only managing legal operations but also fostering collaboration and cultivating robust relationships across the organization.
Your Contributions as Vice President/General Counsel:
- Act as a strategic advisor to the Executive Team, offering expert legal counsel on all internal and external company matters while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Provide leadership on legal issues encompassing corporate law, contracts, intellectual property, civil litigation, dispute resolution, and risk management.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders regarding legal matters, ensuring effective communication and transparency.
- Develop and implement legal strategies and processes that align with business objectives while minimizing legal risks and liabilities.
- Remain informed about legal and regulatory changes in all jurisdictions where the company operates, proactively establishing compliance programs as necessary.
- Represent the company in legal proceedings as required, collaborating with external counsel for litigation and other legal matters.
- Contribute to corporate strategy and design initiatives to achieve organizational goals.
- In collaboration with Business Leaders, review and negotiate various contracts and agreements, overseeing legal due diligence to safeguard the company’s interests in accordance with legal and industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Experienced attorney with a background in legal, regulatory, and claims matters within the property/casualty insurance sector. A minimum of 10 years of experience as a licensed attorney, including at least 7 years focused on property and casualty insurance laws and litigation.
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in the State Bar of North Carolina.
- Proven ability to manage complex legal issues and provide strategic guidance to senior leadership.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage the entire organization in delivering critical business initiatives.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Preferred experience in intellectual property, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and litigation oversight.
- Experience working with Board of Directors and other executive-level committees is preferred.
