About the Role

D.R. Horton, Inc., a leading homebuilder in the U.S., seeks a skilled Assistant Superintendent to assist the Superintendent in managing the community job site, ensuring quality standards, and providing excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will assist with scheduling and supervising job site subcontractors, maintaining quality control, cost management, homeowner walk-throughs, inspections, community maintenance, and enforcing safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect homes daily to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Schedule and conduct inspections with inspectors.
  • Walk completed homes before homeowner walk-throughs and closing sign-offs to ensure quality and note outstanding items for repair.
  • Conduct homeowner orientations and walks to ensure satisfaction.
  • Assist the Superintendent in managing subcontractors and evaluating their performance on quality, safety, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Enforce the site safety program and ensure subcontractor compliance with company standards and safety codes.
  • Ensure communities and jobsites are clean and free of trash and waste materials.
  • Assist the Superintendent in managing construction materials to prevent damage, waste, and theft.
  • Support the construction schedule to deliver a high-quality product on time and within budget.
  • Provide exceptional customer service during all phases of construction.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with subcontractors and homeowners.
  • Develop knowledge in building codes, construction materials, methodologies, terminology, and construction scheduling.
  • In the Superintendent's absence, ensure schedules, policies, and guidelines are maintained.
  • Conduct business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the company's goodwill and profitability.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Six months to 2 years of related experience.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to drive among construction sites during the day and at night.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to read plans and other construction documents.
  • Minimum supervision required, with the ability to create a systematic approach to assignments.
  • Ability to converse with customers, all levels of management, and personnel.
  • Ability to use DRH Construction applications on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral form, or via DRH applications.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email.
  • Ability to stand and walk for 4 hours straight or up to 8 hours a day; sit for extended periods; kneel, bend, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, crawl; walk up and down stairs; climb ladders and scaffolding; walk on unlevel terrain; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level is generally loud.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
