Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at Schofield Barracks in HI. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing comprehensive recreation programs for our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop comprehensive design plans for each activity and integrated execution of all events in accordance with the organization's mission.
  • Conduct pre-event site visits to review proposed facilities, equipment, and support for events.
  • Identify all officials' needs necessary to execute events.
  • Attend regularly scheduled monthly one-hour long teleconference meetings with the Recreation Director and Coaches as required leading up to the events.
  • Develop and implement individual recreation programs based on assessment results and the needs of the client population.
  • Develop comprehensive event site-visit checklists for planning and execution, use and develop a comprehensive requirements checklist for equipment, support, personnel including a schedule for event set-up and tear down.
  • Coordinate the tracking of pertinent client data and information for events, participants and facilitate appropriate communication between clients and Coaches.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development within the adaptive sports industry.
  • Review and analyze program data and analytical reports to ensure technical correctness, identify issues and trends, and assure corrective actions are taken and that the program lead is aware of program changes to include changes concerning medical and clinical soundness.
  • Provide recreation therapy to clients.
  • Recreation activities include, but not limited to adaptive sports, arts and crafts, dance, drama, music, low organized games, table and board games, sports and athletics, special events, outdoor activities and volunteer programs.
  • Participate in the Adaptive Reconditioning surveys and progress reports.
  • Submit monthly reports including activity participation, positive profile percentages, assessment data required by the WCT AR lead, and equipment on-hand to the Recreation Director.
  • Interpret data about the client's status in order to identify recreation and leisure needs and provide the appropriate activities with consideration to age, culture, disability, capabilities and tolerance levels.
  • Provide the Recreation Director with requests required for annual equipment maintenance.
  • Collect equipment repair needs to ensure that the proper skilled technicians are sent to the facilities for this service.
  • Utilize standard assessment tools and/or develops specific tools to determine the functional assessment, interest inventories and profiles to identify appropriate therapeutic goals and develop the client's treatment plan in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Analyze and structure recreational activities in order to realize the individual's treatment goals Employ new approaches and techniques based on diversities of human behavior.
  • Evaluate treatment progress on a recurring basis and provides written and oral reports of findings to Lead for use in developing a goal-setting and treatment plans.
  • Serve as point of contact for recreational therapy program with clients, customers, and higher authorities. Responsible for keeping management and Lead informed on issues and their impacts.
  • Ensure that a management plan is prepared and that therapy support is in accordance with the agreed upon medical management plan.
  • Assure early identification of recreational therapy requirements or issues and facilitates the resolution of identified problems or issues in the most appropriate manner.
  • Inform clients of opportunities for expanded and/or enhanced support to existing and potential clients.
  • Serve as the lead reintegration into community activities. Encourages clients to develop and enhance appropriate psychosocial skills, peer-to-peer interactions, executive functions, motor planning, and physical skills.
  • Work with volunteer groups and non-profit organizations to plan and carry out client trips into the local, regional, and national communities.
  • Coordinate activities, outings, and special events.
  • Work closely with donor groups, the gift coordinator, legal staff, and the client support team.
  • Make trip arrangements for events involving travel and orders supplies, equipment and food required for special events/trips.
  • In the event of a medical emergency, administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and follows established protocols to obtain further medical assistance.
  • Maintain condition and inventory control on an assigned portion of the section's supplies and equipment, replacing lost, used, or damaged items as necessary.
  • Recommend improved equipment, systems, or procedures necessary to carry out functions and activities.
  • Assist with recruiting clients for DCS, WCT, intra-service and international events including, but not limited to Army Trials, Warrior Games, Invictus Games, and Warrior Care Month.
  • Enable the training of recruited athletes to ensure they best represent the organization.
  • Coordinate with other organizations including, but not limited to: Department of Veteran's Affairs Military, Community and Family Programs Morale, Welfare and Recreation DCS, WCT The Office of the Secretary of Defense Other Service Wounded Warrior Programs Non-Governmental Organizations Veteran's Service Organizations Various Disabled Service Organizations Track participation in DCS, WCT databases.

Qualifications:

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Have the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and implement appropriate programs in regard to adaptive sports, recreation and leisure activities based upon the client's physical abilities and tolerance levels.
  • Have the ability to correctly document recreation and leisure progress reports in electronic medical records.
  • Have experience working with individuals that require sporting equipment modifications to participate in physical activity.
  • Experience required includes work which provides progressive knowledge of technical documents and a good understanding of applicable Government and/or industry standards.
  • Must have a proficiency with database management, other administrative skills and experience in operating Microsoft office products.
  • Be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology necessary to communicate proper use with medical staff, clients, and family members.
  • Be knowledgeable in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform duties.
  • Be sufficiently skilled to teach clients proper self-care and to motivate clients and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Must have a certification as a Recreational Therapist from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
  • Possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Must have 3 years or more experience in sport and recreation management, recreation and leisure program planning, and/or military adaptive sport management.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience within the preceding 3 years in activities or programs for individuals and groups (including psychotherapy), that require application of knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of recreational therapist and involve the use of therapeutic approaches to maintain the physical and/or mental health or to achieve the physical and/or mental rehabilitation of persons.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Preference for the Recreation Therapists to have experience working with individuals with physical disabilities, PTSD and TBI.

Salary and Benefits:
