Job Summary

BWX Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Operations Integration Specialist to join our Advanced Technologies team in Lynchburg, VA. As a key member of our Systems Engineering & Integration department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our nuclear reactors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Operating Strategies: Collaborate with design engineers to develop reactor operating strategies that incorporate sound operational principles.
  • Support Reactor Concept of Operations: Participate in the development of the reactor concept of operations, describing the use of the system from the perspective of the reactor operator.
  • Lead Operating Procedure Development: Prepare reactor operating procedures, including normal and off-normal conditions, surveillance procedures, alarm response procedures, and more.
  • Integrate and Coordinate Across Disciplines: Integrate and coordinate across disciplines to implement operating approaches for safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
  • Support Reactor Simulator Development: Support the development of reactor simulators, including interfacing with multiple organizations and contractors, aggregating design data, and developing scenarios for evaluations.
  • Support Control Algorithm Development: Support the development of control algorithms for semi-autonomous and/or manual operations.
  • Evaluate Integrated Plant Response: Support the evaluation of integrated plant response to various events, accidents, and malfunctions.
  • Design Plant Control and Monitoring Interfaces: Support the design of plant control and monitoring interfaces, including the Human Machine Interface in the control room and other operator interfaces.
  • Develop Operations Training Materials: Using reactor design materials, develop operations training material for internal and customer use.
  • Collaborate with Designers for Maintainability: Collaborate with designers for optimized maintainability of the systems.
  • Participate in Design Reviews: Participate in design reviews and provide feedback from an operations and maintenance perspective.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Physics: A Bachelor's degree in one of these fields is required.
  • Minimum of Four Years of Experience in Nuclear Reactor Operations: A minimum of four years of experience in nuclear reactor operations is required.
  • Demonstrated Understanding of Reactor Systems: Must have demonstrated understanding of the interrelationships and dependencies of reactor systems, encompassing nuclear, mechanical, I&C, and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with Reactor Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of reactor equipment is required.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Must have demonstrated ability to lead through influence within matrixed organizations and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship and Security Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
