Job Title: Principal Mechanical Engineer

Assystem is a leading international company accelerating the energy transition worldwide. We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for thermal power plants and fusion projects.

About the Role:

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering front-end engineering activities for Small Modular Reactors, Advanced Modular Reactors, and Fusion projects. You will lead multidisciplinary teams and work closely with stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of power station systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ownership and responsibility for the delivery of power station systems.
  • Leading Optioneering Studies to determine preferred solutions in accordance with client needs and objectives.
  • Developing and reviewing Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, Component and Equipment Datasheets, and Specifications.
  • Leading the development of Design Description Documents, Requirement Specifications, and other design development activities.
  • Integration of developed systems within the wider plant.
  • Chairing Design Reviews and leading HAZID/HAZOP studies with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensuring adherence to company statutory H&S Policies and rules and compliance with the project and Quality Management System.
Requirements:
  • Strong previous experience in the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries such as thermal power generation or oil and gas and process sectors.
  • Experience in thermal power systems and equipment such as steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems or nuclear power plants.
  • Understanding of optioneering and experience in undertaking studies that evaluate credible options.
  • Demonstrated previous experience making ALARP and BAT arguments for selected technical options.
  • Experience coaching and developing junior staff and leading small teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Appreciation and application of ASME, European, and UK codes and standards.
  • British National with eligibility to obtain and maintain full UK security clearance (SC).
