Job SummaryWe are seeking a Senior Fire and Life Safety Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services Group in Charlotte or Raleigh, NC. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise in fire protection engineering and code consulting, as well as project management and leadership of a team of engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Provide fire protection engineering and code consulting services to clients across a range of industries
- Manage and lead a team of engineers in the delivery of fire protection engineering projects
- Develop and implement fire protection engineering solutions that meet client needs and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with other disciplines to deliver integrated engineering solutions
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Fire Protection Engineering PE registration is required
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a technical fire protection design or consulting role involving fire protection systems
- Experience in designing fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm systems layouts utilizing hydraulic calculation programs, and knowledge of NFPA Codes, and International Building and Fire Codes is required
- Project management experience is required
- Working knowledge of NFPA codes as applicable to HDR's project types
- Ability to cultivate good working relationships with project managers, project teams, FLS teammates, and other clients as we grow our team
- Experience with one or more of the following: electric fleet vehicle charging facilities, healthcare facilities, data center/mission-critical facilities, higher education, water/wastewater, industrial process facilities
- Experience identifying, recruiting, hiring, and managing team members
- Local candidates are preferred
