We are currently seeking a part-time Veterinary Care Assistant to enhance our team. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and the capacity to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Previous experience in veterinary care is preferred, although we are open to considering candidates without prior experience. This position is expected to require 15-20 hours of work per week, with availability on Saturdays being essential.

Operating Hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 am-5:30 pm, Saturdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Compensation:
$15/hr

Position Overview

The Veterinary Care Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized animals, manages inventory, prepares medications, conducts routine laboratory tests, and educates clients on veterinary practices.

Essential Duties
  • Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures.
  • Support outpatient examinations by gathering histories, vital signs, and weights, along with providing client education.
  • Prepare animals for surgery and monitor their vital signs during procedures.
  • Collect samples for testing and perform in-house laboratory analyses.
  • Maintain radiographic equipment and ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Handle and restrain animals during examinations.
  • Administer medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
  • Keep examination rooms, treatment areas, and labs clean and organized; restock supplies as needed.
  • Exhibit warmth and professionalism in all client interactions, showing compassion towards patients.
  • Communicate effectively with veterinarians and team members regarding patient care and client concerns.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in veterinary settings is preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and animals up to 25 pounds; assistance available for heavier items.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety practices and proper use of PPE.
  • Basic math skills for medication dosage calculations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.
