Job Summary

The Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital is seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Critical Care team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Exceptional Medical Care: Assist veterinarians with the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of emergency and critical care patients.
  • Perform Technical Procedures: Conduct venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiology, laboratory testing, and anesthesia monitoring.
  • Administer Medications and Treatments: Administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian.
  • Monitor and Document Patient Status: Monitor and document vital signs, patient status, and responses to treatments.
  • Provide Compassionate Care and Support: Provide compassionate care and support to patients and effectively communicate with their owners.
  • Maintain a Clean and Organized Work Environment: Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment.
  • Operate and Maintain Medical Equipment: Operate and maintain medical equipment used in the emergency and critical care unit.
  • Participate in Patient Rounds: Participate in patient rounds and communicate patient status and care plans with the veterinary team.
  • Assist with Triage: Assist with triaging incoming emergency cases.
  • Provide Training and Mentorship: Provide training and mentorship to veterinary technician students and interns.
  • Adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures: Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Work in Isolation and Hospitalized Wards: Work in isolation and hospitalized wards, ensuring appropriate care and management of patients with infectious diseases or those requiring intensive monitoring.
Qualifications
  • Current Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the state of Colorado.
  • Strong Technical Skills: Strong technical skills in emergency and critical care procedures.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
  • Compassionate and Patient-Focused Approach: Compassionate and patient-focused approach to veterinary care.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged Standing and Walking: Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and bending.
  • Handling and Restraint of Animals: Ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes.
