Our mission involves the development of reusable, secure, and cost-effective space vehicles and systems, all within a framework that prioritizes safety, teamwork, and inclusivity. Join our innovative team of problem solvers as we embark on new journeys in the realm of space exploration.

Lunar Infrastructure Development: This position is integral to the Lunar Infrastructure Development division, which focuses on the creation of various Blue Moon lander models. To advance Blue Origin's vision of a sustainable human presence in space, we are constructing the necessary infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar environment.

As a Systems Engineer within the Lunar Infrastructure Program's Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) team, you will oversee the integration and technical management of essential propulsion components, including the BE-7, BHEX, and BT-1.1 engines, across a range of lunar landers. Your responsibilities will include defining technical specifications, managing propulsion performance metrics, facilitating issue resolution, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and NASA to ensure adherence to design and construction standards. Your contributions will be crucial in the successful development of the lunar transportation system and the certification of the Human-class Delivery Lander, which is vital for humanity's ongoing presence on the Moon.

We seek an individual who can leverage their technical knowledge, leadership abilities, and dedication to quality to make a meaningful impact on safe human spaceflight. A genuine passion for our mission and vision is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the integration of BE-7, BHEX, and BT-1.1 hardware across Transporter, Crew, and Cargo Landers.
  • Define the technical content for Statements of Work (SOW) related to BE-7, BHEX, and BT-1.1.
  • Lead integration meetings for BE-7, BHEX, and BT-1.1.
  • Monitor progress on critical issues and drive them to resolution promptly.
  • Ensure that propulsion-related issues are included in the program's top priorities.
  • Manage risks associated with propulsion systems within the program's risk framework.
  • Facilitate decision-making processes at the SLD board level.
  • Oversee Technical Performance Parameters (TPMs) for propulsion systems.
  • Define performance requirements for propulsion systems in the Requirements Definition phase.
  • Assess engine analyses against established requirements.
  • Evaluate engine designs for compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with the RVC team to validate the Engines Verification and Validation (V&V) approach.
  • Manage engine delivery timelines and work with program control to optimize the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
  • Maintain a productive relationship with the NASA Insight team, ensuring timely responses to inquiries and visibility into integration efforts.
  • Coordinate with the RVC team and NASA to guarantee compliance with design and construction standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Over 5 years of experience in integrating complex hardware components across various space vehicles, particularly in propulsion systems.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills to effectively conduct integration meetings and ensure cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships while fostering an inclusive culture.
  • Comprehensive understanding of technical performance parameters and risk management in advanced propulsion systems.
  • Expertise in evaluating engine system analyses and designs against stringent program requirements.
  • Proven experience in managing schedules, delivery timelines, and maintaining clear communication with external partners, including NASA.
  • Demonstrated capability to coordinate with teams to ensure compliance with rigorous design and construction standards.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in defining technical content for Statements of Work (SOWs) related to advanced propulsion systems.
  • Familiarity with in-space combustion technologies, particularly cryogenic and gaseous hydrogen/oxygen systems.
  • Experience in analyzing propulsion system impacts at a programmatic level.
  • Ability to conduct trade studies and make critical decisions across multiple organizations.
  • Advanced proficiency in systems engineering tools such as Jama or Cameo.
  • Experience with Blue Origin's SLD Program, either MK1 or MK2.
  • Background in verification programs for complex aerospace systems.
  • Familiarity with requirements and V&V tracking tools, preferably JAMA.
  • Knowledge of NASA design and certification standards for human spaceflight.
  • Experience with NASA's flight readiness certification process for new systems.
  • Experience with lunar, deep space, or planetary missions.
