Job Summary:
The Facilities Engineering Department at SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the planning, design, construction, and administration of building projects.

The successful candidate will provide leadership for planning, design, construction, and administration of building projects to modify and sustain the University's infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include guiding projects to support the hospital and campus, meeting building codes and regulatory requirements, and integrating properly with existing infrastructure and campus/hospital goals.

This position will support the other engineers of Facilities Engineering, the project managers for Design & Construction, and the Physical Plants of both Hospitals.

Typical duties include functioning as an in-house engineer/designer, consulting with Physical Plant on infrastructure planning and for small project designs, supporting Design & Construction project managers to review project design submissions and provide project design guidance, supporting the engineering needs of Facilities Engineering, and as project manager for selected projects.

As project manager, this position will be responsible for all aspects of design and construction of assigned capital projects, including planning, project work, scope & budget, management of client expectations, budget & schedule, contracts & payments, submittals, progress reporting and close-out.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or related field and 5 years related experience required. Must have knowledge in design of building systems. Must be able to oversee multiple tasks from start to finish. Excellent written/oral communication skills and strong computer skills required. Experience with all facets of design and construction projects required. Knowledge of construction project sequencing, terminology, documentation, processes, and procedures.

Must have the knowledge, skills and techniques to direct and coordinate consultants, contractors, end users and materials through all stages of construction projects.


Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed Professional Engineer preferred. Knowledge of NYS Building Codes & NFPA standards, Facility Guidelines Institute healthcare guidelines, and Hospital procedures. Familiarity with State University of New York (SUNY) procurement guidelines and design guidelines. Experience in design of building systems. Experience in a contract and/or procurement environment. Leadership skills.

Familiarity with Microsoft Project or other scheduling software, Autodesk products and Microsoft Office Building Information Modeling (BIM) experience and proficiency with AUTOCAD, and REVIT software.

Experience managing or design of healthcare related projects.
