Senior Mechanical Engineer - Water Discipline

Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is seeking a senior mechanical engineer to join our Water group. We require a mechanical engineer with at least 5+ years of experience. Our Water Discipline is growing, and we have exciting projects to engage motivated engineers who enjoy working on a variety of projects including hydropower (turbines, generators, and auxiliary mechanical systems); equipment for water control facilities including flood control/pumping stations, reservoirs, and canals; and on gate and hoist equipment associated with hydro and similar facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage projects for the repair and/or upgrade of hydroelectric turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems.
  • Lead or assist in the design effort for upgrade/replacement of hydroelectric auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Lead or assist in the design effort for gate operating equipment on or near the water (locks, dams, water control gates, moorings, etc.).
  • Direct the development of bid documents (plans, specs, and cost estimates).
  • Develop or provide input on design effort for proposals.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Review/edit/write technical reports.
  • Review/edit/write technical specifications.
  • Develop design criteria for projects.
  • Oversee teams of drafters to prepare design drawings.
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Lead field inspections and surveys in support of repair, design, and construction efforts.
  • Develop design alternatives.
  • Assist project managers and leaders as needed in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional engineer licensure preferred (or desire to become licensed).
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with emphasis on rotating equipment and auxiliary mechanical systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment (pumps, turbines, generators).
  • Knowledge in the design of auxiliary mechanical systems (cooling water, lube oil, compressed air, HVAC).
  • Knowledge of large gates, cranes, and valves will be a plus.
