Compliance and Privacy Paralegal

We are seeking a detail-oriented Paralegal with excellent written and verbal communication skills to join our Legal team as a Compliance and Privacy Paralegal. In this role, you will report to the Corporate Compliance Counsel and be responsible for collaborating with the Compliance officer to develop, implement, and oversee the company's privacy, ethics, and compliance programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess legislative and regulatory developments that can impact the corporate compliance and privacy program.
- Assist in responding to compliance issues, participate in investigations, and ensure documentation is complete.
- Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and recommend strategies to mitigate risks.
- Review and document OFAC screening results.
- Evaluate corporate privacy risks, including conducting assessments, investigations, and recommend remediations.
- Conduct state research, verify team member license requirements, maintain records on individuals to demonstrate compliance with state requirements.
- Conduct research into compliance laws and regulations applicable to our operations.
- Maintain record keeping for corporate compliance program.
- Assist in evaluating effectiveness of program and potential gaps for mitigation.
- Assist in planning, developing, implementing, reviewing, and updating compliance policies and procedures.
- Participate in compliance audits and examinations, document management.
- Monitor and audit employee training records and prepare updates, metrics, and reports on training results.
- Self-monitor due dates to meet internal and external regulatory deadlines.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- State or national Paralegal certification required.
- Paralegal license or JD optional.
- At least three years of experience in a corporate compliance or legal office required.
- Privacy certification required (i.e. IAPP) or required to obtain certification in the first 18 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep understanding of state privacy laws and regulations (HIPAA, GLBA, GDPR).
- Experience handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Familiarity with risk management in the context of healthcare compliance and data privacy is a plus.
- Ability to communicate privacy-related issues and policies to team members and stakeholders effectively.
