This position is responsible for providing administrative and legal support to our family law attorneys. Key duties include:

  • Drafting and preparing documents, agreements, and pleadings.
  • Monitoring and executing civil procedure steps in a timely manner.
  • Conducting research and analyzing data to support case development.
  • Communicating with clients to obtain responses to discovery.
  • Summarizing discovery responses from adversary attorneys and defendants.
  • Assisting attorneys with escalated matters, arbitrations, trial preparation, and witness requests.
  • Preparing and organizing exhibits and compiling exhibit notebooks for trial.
  • Recording and tracking deadlines through docketing and calendaring processes.
  • Negotiating and preparing settlement agreements.
  • Ensuring files are ready for hearings by reviewing case notes and drafting appropriate motions, orders, and labeling documents.
  • Providing case updates to clients via email by monitoring, updating, and reviewing account information regularly.
  • Screening telephone calls, incoming mail, and other correspondence from court personnel, sheriff deputies, local counsel, defendants, and adversary attorneys.
  • Completing monthly online compliance training and testing.
  • Performing legal research and other related duties as assigned by management and/or supervising attorney(s).

Requirements include:

  • Minimum 1-3 years of paralegal experience in litigation practice, with knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure (North Carolina-specific a plus).
  • Prior Family Law experience, including familiarity with North Carolina family court rules, is strongly preferred.
  • Associate degree and/or Paralegal Certification for North Carolina are desired.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience using electronic filing systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to track and record billable hours and related time entries.
  • Proven ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to type 50+ WPM.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Proficient in drafting and strong attention to detail.
