Job Title: Public Health Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse to join our team at Barry-Eaton District Health Department (BEDHD). As a Public Health Nurse, you will play a vital role in promoting health and preventing disease in our community.

Job Summary:

The Public Health Nurse will provide comprehensive nursing services, including assessment, diagnosis, teaching, counseling, and prevention services to promote health throughout the district. This position will have the opportunity to serve as a lead nurse for a designated program area, such as immunizations, communicable disease, CSHCS, or other programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Plan, develop, implement, and coordinate clinic and community health programs.
  • Implement, maintain, organize, and evaluate clinic programs to meet the goals and objectives of the district and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate updates and requirements to employees and provide information on health and program-related matters.
  • Coordinate and conduct nurse services according to client treatment plans and medical orders, in conjunction with professional nursing practice standards.
  • Complete health assessments, collect specimens for lab testing, record measurements, interview, and assess client's health history to support interventions that promote health, prevent disease, and treat illness.
  • Conduct home visits and initiate referrals to community agencies.
  • Handle case management to monitor treatment, medical care, education, and care coordination, and develop personalized care plans.
  • Investigate, monitor, and report communicable diseases. Coordinate efforts with physicians, school personnel, and community partners to mitigate the spread and supply treatments for the disease.
  • Maintain and update client records; prepare data for local and state reports.
  • Educate clients about available programs and other health-related matters.
  • Assist in community health education; represent the department at community activities and on community work groups related to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease.
Requirements:
  • Nursing license in the state of Michigan.
  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing, preferred.
  • 1 year of nursing experience or applicable public health experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
