About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Administrative Support Specialist to join our team at the City of Kent, WA. As an Administrative Support Specialist, you will provide exceptional support to the Public Works Director, utilizing your exceptional communication and organizational skills to take on complex administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Public Works Director, relieving them of confidential, administrative, clerical, and technical details.
  • Act as a liaison between the Director, the general public, management, employees, and other City departments.
  • Assist in developing procedures to expedite the transmittal of information and facilitate the implementation of policies and programs.
  • Develop and implement department-wide special projects, including creating new workspace areas, identifying equipment and supply needs, and overseeing purchases.
  • Prepare City Council agenda items, including backup materials, and coordinate communications with other departments.
  • Prepare a variety of statistical, financial, and administrative reports, and research and analyze data for inclusion in reports and documents.
  • Responsible for records management, scanning procedures, and overseeing the destruction of records.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible administrative support experience in a public setting, including one year of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable state laws, City of Kent codes, ordinances, and City and department policies and procedures.
  • Principles and practices of administration, training, and recordkeeping techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Research and analytical methods, practices, and procedures.
