Position Overview

The Taxation Staff Accountant plays a vital role within a team of skilled Accounting and Tax professionals. This role involves supporting daily tax operations, which includes the analysis and review of compliance with federal, state, and local regulations on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Additionally, this position aids in the daily operations related to partner compensation, encompassing capital account management, periodic compensation budget analysis, and tracking unique partner income items. The Taxation Staff Accountant will also have the opportunity to contribute to various firm-wide initiatives and projects.

Work Environment

This role offers a hybrid work model, requiring regular office attendance with flexibility for remote work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze partner compensation and tax compliance items on a regular basis, providing initial insights to the Accounting team leaders.
  • Reconcile general ledger account balances related to compensation and tax on a monthly and quarterly basis to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in preparing year-end tax files, computing final partner distributions, and responding to audit inquiries as necessary.
  • Support capital account maintenance through periodic contributions, returns, reconciliations, and other communications, including verification of employment and income requests.
  • Address various tax obligations, including ad hoc research, sales and use tax filings, personal property tax filings, and other state compliance requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is essential. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of accounting principles, including differences between cash and accrual accounting, as well as partnership versus corporate accounting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, organizational abilities, and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment are crucial. Experience in public accounting with knowledge of state and local tax regulations is preferred.

Educational Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

Certifications

A CPA license or status as a CPA candidate is preferred.

Experience

A minimum of two years of prior accounting experience is required.

Physical Demands

This position involves sedentary work, requiring the ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects. Most tasks will be performed while seated.
