The ACLU is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Organizing within the Organizing Division of the National Political Advocacy Department. This role is designed to be hybrid, requiring in-office attendance for two (2) days each week.
The National Political Advocacy Department (NPAD) is dedicated to enhancing the ACLU's initiatives at various levels of government. By leveraging the political influence of our extensive membership base, the department aims to effectuate significant changes through grassroots mobilization, lobbying efforts, and targeted issue campaigns.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and support organizing-focused initiatives for nationwide and significant state and local campaigns.
- Oversee team members, including remote staff and consultants, ensuring program effectiveness and professional development.
- Craft and disseminate narratives about organizing efforts, achievements, and insights within the ACLU and to current and potential volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across national departments and state affiliates, as well as with coalitions, researchers, and other partners.
- Partner with communications teams to enhance media coverage of grassroots initiatives and events.
- Facilitate national coalition engagement and assist in the execution of organizing programs.
- Provide guidance to state affiliates on coalition engagement as needed.
- Monitor political trends and pinpoint strategic opportunities for advocacy and organizing.
- Implement grassroots engagement experiments, collect data, analyze results, and provide recommendations.
- Shape the ACLU's grassroots strategies on critical political issues and legislation.
- Engage in various issues pertinent to the ACLU's mission.
- Participate in special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Proven experience in political advocacy and issue campaigns.
- Strong grasp of essential organizing principles and the ability to motivate and educate others.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly articulate complex ideas and analyses.
- Self-driven with the capability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently while leading others.
- Experience in managing campaign teams focused on candidates or issues.
- Expertise in developing and assessing data-driven organizing initiatives.
- Familiarity with voter and volunteer engagement databases.
- Understanding of diverse organizing methodologies, including digital and distributed approaches.
- Capacity to thrive in a matrixed and federated environment.
