Position Overview:

Become an integral part of a prestigious academic healthcare institution, The University of Chicago Medicine, as the Assistant Care Manager for the Family Birth Center. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the operational management of the Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby units during your designated shifts, ensuring the provision of high-quality, patient-focused care while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Sign-On Bonus Opportunity: Eligible for a bonus of up to $5,000.

At the Family Birth Center, we pride ourselves on delivering a personalized birthing experience within a nurturing and private setting. Our dedicated team provides comprehensive support to expectant mothers and their families throughout the journey of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum recovery. Our facility features private triage, delivery, antepartum, and recovery suites, along with specialized natural birthing rooms equipped with hydrotherapy tubs, ensuring comfort and safety during this significant life event.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient flow and operational activities during assigned shifts.
  • Conduct daily quality audits and manage performance improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate team huddles to promote effective communication and collaboration.
  • Support the Patient Care Manager in maintaining 24/7 unit coverage.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of departmental goals aligned with the hospital's mission.
  • Identify and address patient care challenges, implementing strategic solutions.
  • Provide clinical guidance and resources to enhance unit operations.
  • Monitor and enhance patient and family satisfaction through regular assessments.
  • Oversee staff performance management, development, and retention strategies.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes, including data collection and analysis.
  • Evaluate staffing requirements and engage in the recruitment process.
  • Manage budgetary considerations to optimize care delivery efficiency.
  • Engage in committee work and special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in a charge nurse role with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Current RN licensure in Illinois.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in women's health.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to foster collaboration among healthcare professionals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN).
  • Relevant specialty certifications.
  • Experience in an academic medical center and familiarity with unionized environments.
  • Understanding of collective bargaining agreements.
  • At least one year of experience in a managerial or clinical coordinator role.
  • Preferred experience in Labor and Delivery.
