I&E Technician Job Summary

PIC Group has an exceptional opportunity for a highly skilled I&E Technician to join our team at a natural gas-fired simple cycle power generation plant in Los Angeles.

The successful candidate will report to the plant Site Specialist and be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and maintaining all instrumentation and electrical equipment associated with the combustion turbine, generator, and all auxiliary equipment for the plant.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Recognize safety hazards and follow safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers, and the protection of the public.
  2. Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations, and effectively apply them to all work situations.
  3. Work with operations crew to communicate problems and corrective actions to equipment.
  4. Install, calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain protective relays, computers, metering, monitoring, and control systems on combustion turbines, generators, and plant auxiliary equipment. In-shop location includes performing benchwork and component troubleshooting.
  5. Maintain Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) to include analyzer repairs, system calibrations, and quarterly audits.
  6. Reads and interprets electric generating plants P&ID's and CWD's to locate, identify, troubleshoot, and repair plant systems, interlocks, etc.
  7. Uses test equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, electronic bridges, loop calibrators) and hand tools (i.e. drills, screwdrivers) as necessary to troubleshoot and maintain devices and systems for the power plant.
  8. Completes all written and electronic records (i.e. notifications, work orders, calibration sheets, timecards, material requests) required to document the work in progress and as it is completed.
  9. Continually updates knowledge of plant systems and instrumentation.
  10. Makes decisions about how best to repair equipment and what resources (tools, time equipment) will be needed.

Requirements

  1. Good mechanical aptitude.
  2. Ability to respectfully communicate orally and in written reports, condition of equipment, and status of jobs to crew leader, supervision, operations, and other craft personnel and outside service representatives.
  3. Knowledge of electricity, voltage, and current relationships.
  4. Knowledge of 480 & 4160 motor control circuits and breaker maintenance.
  5. Awareness of Federal, State, and Company environmental guidelines.
  6. Experience with maintenance activities and procedures performed on control systems used in power generation.
  7. Ability to read and interpret instruction manuals, blueprints, and control system drawings; applies knowledge to daily tasks.
  8. Capability to learn mechanical and electrical control equipment and basic power plant equipment operation.
  9. Ability to apply mathematical skills including algebra and geometry to take measurements and perform computations required for installation and calibration of equipment.
  10. Experience troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic, electronic, PLC, and digital controllers used in control loops.
  11. Ability to calibrate and perform maintenance on temperature, level, and pressure instruments and transmitters.
  12. Ability to calibrate and perform maintenance on control valves.
  13. Efficiency with the Lock Out/Tag Out of equipment per plant procedure.
  14. Skilled with personal computers and associated software.
  15. Safely operate company vehicles and equipment (e.g. forklift, plant vehicles, etc.) and maintain operating licenses and certifications. CA DL is required.
  16. Effectively maintain all written and electronic records to document work in progress and completed using SAP and other MS office suite applications.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  2. Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  3. Occasionally work at heights, climb ladders, stairways, and platforms.
  4. Visual abilities for focusing, seeing short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  5. Adequate hearing to detect plant alarms, equipment conditions, and oral instructions.
  6. Visual and olfactory senses to determine plant operating conditions and avoid hazards.

Education/Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED required.
  2. Training or education in electronics and pneumatics, instrumentation, engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Compensation
The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $60-$65.
