Position Overview:

UIC Alaska is seeking a Buyer to enhance our Purchasing Department. This role is essential for an individual with expertise in procurement operations. The successful candidate will cultivate strong relationships with key suppliers, confirm shipping timelines, and oversee open purchase orders. The Buyer will ensure the acquisition of materials from suppliers at the most competitive prices while maintaining quality, reliability, and urgency of need. Responsibilities include interviewing vendors and providing recommendations for supply sources, as well as analyzing received quotations to select or endorse suppliers.

Telework options are available for all candidates, with the possibility of reporting to an office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of materials management in a purchasing context.
  • Source and evaluate vendors effectively.
  • Possess understanding of mobile communication devices and services.
  • Coordinate with shipping companies such as FedEx and UPS.
  • Negotiate supplier terms and conditions, including pricing.
  • Prepare Requests for Quotes (RFQs).
  • Comprehend Quality Deficiency Reports and manage non-cancelable/non-returnable orders.
  • Compile data and documentation to generate purchase orders.
  • Verify specifications of purchase requests.
  • Expedite orders as necessary.
  • Evaluate bids and select appropriate suppliers.
  • Provide associate-level support for general business or technical tasks.
  • Maintain and update the SharePoint site.
  • Coordinate the collection and preparation of reports.
  • Compile relevant data.
  • Review and respond to correspondence.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in government contract procurement, purchasing, or buying.
  • Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Department of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFAR).
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of personnel and external contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sound judgment, capable of working independently or collaboratively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to twist, bend, and squat periodically.

Currently, there are no security clearance requirements for this position; however, candidates must successfully pass a background check. Due to the nature of this work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
