The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking applications for the role of Employee Relations Specialist within the Office of Human Resources.

Position Responsibilities

The Employee Relations (ER) Specialist is responsible for providing expert consultation and support to both employees and management, fostering a positive and effective workplace environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and thrive in a dynamic setting, exhibiting both independence and teamwork.

Key Duties Include:

  • Delivering in-person and outreach support to employees and supervisors regarding HR regulations, policies, and procedures at the federal, state, and university levels.
  • Collaborating with management to mediate and resolve daily conflicts, offering guidance on employee development and performance management strategies, including coaching and progressive discipline.
  • Creating and maintaining templates and documentation pertinent to employee relations.
  • Assisting management in crafting documents that address performance and behavioral issues.
  • Providing counsel on the annual evaluation process, including development plans and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Partnering with management to conduct internal investigations on employee relations matters, in collaboration with compliance units for discrimination complaints.
  • Analyzing survey data to identify trends and areas for improvement, sharing insights with leadership, and recommending enhancements.
  • Facilitating and participating in various training sessions related to employee relations as assigned.
  • Maintaining accurate records and metrics for employee relations activities, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Preparing reports and responses for unemployment claims and representing the university in hearings.
  • Coordinating requests for employee records.

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least one year of relevant experience, or an associate's degree with three years of experience, or a high school diploma/GED with five years of experience.

  • Proficient understanding of employment policies and procedures, including grievances, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong judgment, decision-making skills, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to analyze complex issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training on specialized topics.
