This position is integral to the Blue Origin Engines division, dedicated to the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of propulsion systems and engines. Our versatile engine family is set to power the forthcoming generation of rockets for various applications, including commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

As a leader within a dedicated team of engineers, you will serve as the functional manager for a project engineering team operating in a matrix environment, supporting a diverse array of propulsion development initiatives for multiple clients. This team plays a crucial role in establishing, executing, and enhancing engineering integration and project management processes, methodologies, and tools, ensuring uniformity and coherence across our engine programs. Your leadership will be vital in fostering a holistic perspective and culture, integrating project engineering practices throughout the lifecycle of engine development, production, certification, and operations.

In your managerial capacity within the Engine Design Office, you will collaborate with your team to set project management standards, disseminate best practices and lessons learned across Blue Engines and the broader organization, and continually enhance the tools and capabilities of our exceptional team. As part of a diverse workforce, you will oversee the employee lifecycle, including performance management, career development, training, resource allocation, and driving consistency in project engineering across our Engine Programs. You should be passionate about resolving communication and organizational challenges, building trust, and enhancing the overall performance of all involved teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engaged Project Engineers, ensuring they are equipped to facilitate successful execution across the Engines Business Unit's product offerings.
  • Recruit, onboard, mentor, and manage a team of dedicated Project Engineers, providing constructive feedback, establishing clear objectives, and coordinating project efforts with other teams and managers.
  • Oversee the professional development of direct reports and ensure adherence to company policies (e.g., regular one-on-one development discussions, performance evaluations, promotion management, timekeeping, training, etc.).
  • Own the strategy and methodology for Project Engineering best practices, aiming to drive program success through consistent application across Engine programs.
  • Collaborate with product management to formulate roadmaps and project plans for enhancing existing and developing new Project Engineering services aligned with program requirements.
  • Foster and maintain strategic partnerships and relationships with relevant teams across Blue Origin.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Systems or Project Engineering, including complex system development projects within the Aerospace, automotive, or similar safety-critical industries.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience in leading team members or indirect/matrixed program team members.
  • Technical expertise in areas such as Combustion Devices, Valves, or Turbomachinery.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and techniques.
  • Familiarity with risk management, configuration management, requirements development, and verification planning.
  • Experience in leading and managing small teams on fast-paced projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to build trusting, strategic, and effective working relationships that enhance team performance and deliver results.
  • Proven capability to comprehend an organization's vision and translate it into actionable strategies for prioritizing decisions to achieve results and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to earn trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree (M.S.) or higher in aerospace, systems engineering, business, or a related field.
  • Experience in developing aerospace products from concept through new product introduction.
  • Technical expertise with liquid rocket engines and testing facilities.
  • Experience in developing and implementing processes.
