Job Summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking a highly skilled Security Officer I to join our team. This role is responsible for protecting patients, visitors, and staff by enforcing hospital policies and procedures, investigating incidents, and providing a safe and secure environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and quell disturbances to maintain a safe and secure environment
  • Complete descriptive reports for supervisory personnel
  • Notify city officials and prepare reports as needed
  • Perform regular patrols of hospital buildings and grounds to prevent unauthorized access
  • Conduct investigations into incidents of theft, hazardous conditions, and other security issues
  • Monitor access control systems, fire alarms, and security video systems
  • Control traffic to ensure access for emergency vehicles and patients/visitors
  • Provide escorts for staff to their vehicles as requested
  • Deliver deceased bodies to the morgue and release them to authorized personnel
  • Respond to emergency codes and alert the department manager of any deviations from departmental standards
  • Enforce hospital policies and procedures as directed
Requirements
  • High-school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire
  • Maintain IAHSS Basic certification
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association within 9 months of hire
  • Successful completion of Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months of hire
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with a variety of individuals
  • Writing skills necessary to complete reports and paperwork that meets departmental standards
  • Valid driver's license
  • Physical Demands: A physical demands test provides an objective way to identify if a candidate can meet the essential tasks for the job
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare security, police work, or military service
  • Valid FOID card
  • Associate/Bachelor's degree
