Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced attorney to join our team as a Supreme Court Chambers Attorney, Personal Staff of the Chief Justice. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the Chief Justice and contribute to the development of critical legal documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Chief Justice in drafting conference memoranda, calendar memoranda, and opinions in cases assigned to her.
  • Review and critique memoranda and proposed opinions in cases assigned to other justices of the Supreme Court.
  • Review memoranda for the court's weekly petition conference.
  • Research and analyze existing law to provide recommendations to the Chief Justice.
  • Draft clear, organized, and well-written memoranda.
  • Handle multiple assignments simultaneously and expeditiously.
Requirements
  • California State Bar membership.
  • Relevant experience in the practice of law.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Broad and practical knowledge of the law.
  • Familiarity with appellate practice.
  • Mature and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other members of the staff and court.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Substantial experience as a judicial staff attorney, appellate practitioner, or comparable position emphasizing legal writing and analysis.
  • Experience in an adjudicatory setting.
  • Experience in litigation, preparing and/or arguing law and motion matters.
Salary and Benefits

Salary ranges from $7,041 to $13,797 per month, depending on level and experience.
