Summary: The Educational Support Specialist collaborates with special education instructors and other certified personnel to address the requirements of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist individual students or small groups in enhancing academic skills.
- Utilize various classroom technologies and equipment to support student learning.
- Maintain communication with educators to coordinate necessary support.
- Reinforce classroom and school regulations.
- Provide accommodations as specified in IEPs.
- Support students with instructional tasks, assignments, and assessments as directed by the teacher.
- Participate in routine classroom activities and assessments.
- Engage in data collection for student progress as instructed by certified staff.
- Support students during their integration into general education classes.
- Redirect inappropriate behavior and assist in de-escalation techniques.
- Implement non-violent crisis intervention strategies as needed.
- Monitor student safety during transitions between classes.
- This list is not exhaustive of all duties performed in this role, but rather highlights common responsibilities.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is essential for delivering high-quality student services.

Education/Experience:
- Completion of at least two years of higher education (equivalent to 60 semester hours); or
- Possession of an associate's degree (or higher); or
- Minimum passing score of 460 on the ETS Parapro Assessment.
- Experience with secondary education students is preferred.
The work environment may be occasionally noisy. The employee may be at an increased risk of exposure to infections due to close contact with children. Continuous interaction with the public and staff is required, often managing multiple demands simultaneously.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and understand simple instructions, brief correspondence, and memos. Capability to write basic correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret data presented in various formats.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed instructions and address problems with concrete variables.
Physical Demands:
The physical requirements for this position include regular reaching, standing, walking, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. Specific vision abilities and hearing capabilities are necessary to perform essential functions effectively.
