Job Overview

The Construction Crew Leader is responsible for overseeing team members, equipment, tools, and materials to ensure all projects are executed according to contractual obligations. Candidates must possess prior experience in a supervisory role and hold a valid Class A CDL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and promote safety protocols and regulations at all times.
  • Manage daily operations of crew members and equipment.
  • Delegate specific tasks to team members and monitor their performance.
  • Plan and implement assigned work efficiently and safely.
  • Organize job tasks to maximize productivity.
  • Communicate with property owners regarding work to be performed, ensuring permissions are obtained for any necessary actions.
  • Ensure all crew members utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety guidelines.
  • Perform tree trimming and removal using various tools and techniques, ensuring safe handling of materials.
  • Apply herbicides to stumps and brush as required.
  • Load and unload vehicles with materials and debris, and operate chippers as necessary.
  • Coordinate breaks and meal times for the crew.
  • Oversee site cleanup and secure all tools and equipment post-job.
  • Maintain accurate records of time, materials, and equipment used.
  • Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and equipment, and lead job briefings as mandated.
  • Restock supplies and perform routine maintenance on equipment, reporting any issues to the General Foreperson.
  • Assess and respond to emergency situations, prioritizing safety.
  • Assist with storm response efforts as needed.

Supervisory Role

The Construction Crew Leader does not have direct reports but is responsible for directing crew members in preparing necessary equipment and supplies for daily tasks.

Experience Requirements

Experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military sectors is preferred.

Education Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to meet and demonstrate qualifications for all crew positions.
  • Capability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Skill in delegating tasks and being accountable for crew performance.
  • Understanding of technical drawings and symbols related to equipment and operations.
  • Adaptability to field conditions and ability to work independently.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and safe driving skills.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain first-aid and CPR certifications.
  • Effective communication skills with team members and clients.
  • Physical endurance to perform duties throughout a standard workday.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining necessary tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to travel for storm restoration work when required.
