We are seeking a talented Graphic Artist to contribute to our creative initiatives.

Overview

Under supervision, engages in professional activities related to the creation and production of diverse graphic materials and presentations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides artistic direction, template creation, photography, layout design, typesetting, illustration, editing, and final production of high-quality brochures, newsletters, and other communication materials; designs and/or revises presentations and printed displays in line with branding standards; develops custom signage, forms, and stationery in both digital and print formats.
  • Creates and/or modifies graphics such as diagrams, maps, motion graphics, and animations to depict intricate technical information; produces professional, custom-designed maps utilizing existing graphics and data.
  • Plans, writes, and designs targeted communication materials including graphics, brochures, and illustrations to effectively convey technical information to the general public or specific audiences.
  • Assists with web design and artistic direction for online platforms.
  • Captures photographs of various facilities, waterways, and other subjects necessary for graphic projects; archives images; edits and processes photographs; mounts, mats, and frames images and documents as required.
  • Collaborates with requesting departments to develop concepts and provide technical support related to the design and budgeting of graphic projects.
  • Manages and orders graphic supplies and equipment; plans material selection for graphic projects; coordinates with external vendors for material procurement or production needs.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in a standard office setting and necessitates the use of typical office equipment, including computers.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, materials, and techniques of graphic arts.
  • Familiarity with the principles, practices, and techniques of photography, including the printing and development of photographic materials.
  • Ability to plan and execute graphics such as charts, graphs, diagrams, maps, and other visual aids in both printed and electronic formats.
  • Proficiency in utilizing various graphic design technologies and software for the creation and production of graphic materials in both printed and electronic formats.
  • Capability to undertake and complete complex and sensitive public information assignments effectively and on schedule.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance to departmental staff regarding the design, editing, and cost of developing graphic materials.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in graphic design, marketing, or communications.

Substitution Policy

Professional experience in graphic design may be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis. Technical training beyond high school in graphic design may also be substituted for college education on a year-for-year basis.
