Position Summary:
Under the direct oversight of the Collection System Supervisor, the Wastewater Collection System Technician is responsible for executing a range of maintenance, operational, and repair duties related to the wastewater collection infrastructure and associated pump stations. This role involves operating various maintenance and construction machinery, including air compressors and jackhammers, as well as assisting with specialized equipment such as hydro cleaners and sewer vacuum trucks. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the company's core values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct semi-skilled maintenance and operational tasks within the wastewater collection system and pump stations.
- Perform cleaning of wastewater systems, storm drains, and related facilities; clear blockages in lines and maintain manholes and pump stations.
- Assist in the operation of hydro cleaning and sewer vacuum equipment to maintain system integrity.
- Utilize sewer cleaning, jet rodding, and TV inspection tools as required.
- Be available for on-call duties as scheduled.
- Inspect and maintain pump stations, ensuring they are free of debris.
- Operate construction equipment, including air compressors and jackhammers.
- Familiarize oneself with the layout of the collection and distribution systems, including map reading.
- Perform line locating and marking tasks throughout the service area.
- Manage traffic control in high-traffic areas, setting up barricades and directing vehicles around work sites.
- Assist in manhole repairs, concrete mixing, and masonry work as needed.
- Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean and safe condition.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and the public in a courteous manner.
- Attend training and safety meetings as necessary.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
- Be prepared to work unscheduled overtime when required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Valid driver's license.
- Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Comfortable working outdoors year-round.
- Excellent attendance record.
- Proficient in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- Frequent physical activities including standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance and 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Information:
Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States and pass a drug screening, physical examination, and background check. A valid driver's license is required. The use of marijuana, even if permitted by state law, disqualifies candidates due to federal regulations.
