Job Summary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply accurate coding to submit initial clean claims, ensuring prompt and accurate payment in accordance with CPT, government, and carrier policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain claim submission and carrier response within timely filing limits set forth by the carrier and/or carrier contracts.
  • Review accounts for proper reimbursement from carriers and patients, and submit adjustment requests for approval for fully worked claims.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies and patients regarding payment and appeals.
  • Participate in compliance training and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Monitor daily and weekly reports to achieve overall coding and claim oversight.
  • Coordinate with the division regarding bad debt and collection efforts.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments through continuous education in areas specific to coding, billing, and insurance contracts.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with coding and billing courses a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience in accounts management/billing in a healthcare organization, with a minimum of 5 years of General surgery, ENT, and/or orthopedics coding from office notes and operative reports.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is required.
  • Must reside in the state of Florida.

Work Environment:

The Certified Coder will work primarily in a remote environment, with occasional office work as scheduled or as needed. The role involves frequent telephone contact with patients, and may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
