**Water Resources Management Specialist**

The City of New York's Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for providing high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater, and reducing pollution. As a key member of the DEP team, the Water Resources Management Specialist will oversee the inspection and maintenance of water use systems, ensuring compliance with regulations and safeguarding public health.

**Key Responsibilities**

  • Direct and supervise water use inspection programs, assigning tasks and evaluating staff performance
  • Develop and implement in-service training programs to enhance staff skills and knowledge
  • Plan and execute special programs and surveys, interpreting and enforcing departmental rules and regulations
  • Utilize DCU and MTU systems to troubleshoot issues and assign tasks to field staff
  • Collaborate with contractors to install and replace meters, ensuring accurate installations and resolving customer complaints

**Requirements**

  • Three years of experience in mechanical work, plumbing, or water use inspection, including one year in a supervisory role
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor staff
  • Familiarity with large meter installations and service orders, as well as knowledge of meter types and their applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service

**Note:** Only candidates with a permanent civil service title of Water Use Inspector will be considered for this position. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, although exceptions may apply for certain City Employees.
