Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Operations Technician I plays a crucial role in the sampling, observation, and inspection of products or raw materials intended for laboratory analysis. This position entails the following responsibilities:


• Operates under direct supervision to execute job responsibilities effectively.


• Collects samples from products or raw materials being transferred to various containers, including vessels, trucks, and rail.


• Ensures that all sample containers and associated documentation are properly labeled with essential information such as sample identification, collection location, date, and time.


• Transports samples to the laboratory for subsequent analysis.


• Prepares samples by reducing and dividing them into appropriate sizes.


• Gathers samples at designated locations, during specific processing stages, and at defined time intervals.


• Conducts sample screening and performs related physical tests as necessary.


• Maintains organization and cleanliness of all equipment and containers before and after use.


• Adheres to all safety protocols by wearing the required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.


• Complies with local and federal safety regulations and procedures.


• May undertake preparation or laboratory duties as dictated by operational needs.


• Follows internal standards, policies, and procedures diligently.


• Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


• High School diploma or equivalent is required.


• No prior experience is necessary unless mandated by state law.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS


• A valid driver's license may be required if driving a company vehicle is part of the role.


• Obtaining a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card) may be necessary.


• A 24-hour Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate may be required, with training provided by SGS.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES


• Language Skills: Intermediate proficiency in English is required (Advanced preferred).


• Mathematical Skills: Basic skills are required (Intermediate preferred).


• Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Intermediate level required, employing logical and practical approaches to problem-solving.


• Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential for presenting information to internal or external stakeholders.


• Ability to follow instructions accurately to ensure results are achieved within the required timeframe.


• Capable of addressing problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


• Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.


• Ability to work independently while under moderate supervision.


• A collaborative attitude with a focus on customer service is essential.

COMPUTER SKILLS


• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) at an intermediate level is preferred.

TRAVEL


• Local travel may be required; occasional overnight travel may also be necessary.

EQUIPMENT


• This position routinely utilizes standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones.


• May involve the use of sample preparation equipment, including Jaw Crushers, Bowl & Disc Pulverizing Mills, Pressure Filters, Riffle Splitters, and other basic sampling tools.
