Hotel Operations and Financial Management

As a key member of the Shaner Hotel Group team, the Assistant General Manager is responsible for assisting the General Manager in maintaining proper controls for all hotel operations in accordance with company policies and franchise standards. This includes ensuring the achievement of hotel financial goals and budget targets, as well as maintaining and exceeding profit goals through effective payroll and purchasing controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts.
  • Focus on achieving hotel financial goals and budget targets.
  • Ensure that payroll and purchasing controls are in place to maintain and exceed profit goals.
  • Assist in developing long- and short-range financial objectives consistent with property objectives.
  • Ensure that all Shaner and franchise operating standards are followed.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of hotel features, room types, rates, room availability, and expected arrivals/departures.
  • Handle guest complaints ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Assist staff with their job functions to ensure optimum service to guests.
  • Lead all aspects of employee performance to ensure productivity and a quality work environment.
  • Establish, maintain, and train standards and procedures for cleaning and safe working conditions in all departments.

Requirements
  • Minimum of one year of management experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • High school graduate or equivalent; college degree in hospitality management or business preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Working knowledge of all hotel departments.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledgeable of the property management system.
  • Knowledge of local activities and attractions appropriate for clientele.
