Job Summary

Natividad Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Patient Financial Services Specialist II to join our team. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will be responsible for preparing patient accounts, generating and issuing patient bills, and performing collections and other related work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and verify patient financial status and payor source information
  • Enter data into and operate a computerized patient account system
  • Research and resolve missing or conflicting information
  • Interview and work with patients, families, and others regarding financial resources, eligibility for coverage, and payment requirements
  • Work with other service providers, claim adjudicators, insurance companies, and government payor sources to obtain, correct, or provide information
  • Assemble pre-billing materials, prepare, generate, and send individual, insurance, governmental, crossover, and other bills for medical care-related services
  • Evaluate and process bad debt accounts, perform collection and follow-up activities, and refer uncollectible accounts to collection services
  • Reconcile accounts, post payments, adjust balances, and prepare refund packages for approval
  • Review billing documentation, resolve issues that would prevent accurate, prompt claim billing, and troubleshoot download problems
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of Federally Qualified Health Center billing procedures and operations
  • Working knowledge of clerical bookkeeping practices and procedures, general clerical office practices, and current procedural terminology
  • Some knowledge of basic medical terminology and personal computer operations
  • Ability to perform arithmetical computations, comparisons, and postings rapidly and accurately, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals
Qualifications

A combination of experience, education, and/or training that substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • One year of experience performing duties directly related to patient account billing, patient financial resources evaluation, account collection, or assessment of patient eligibility for specialized medical care financial programs
  • Or one year of experience at a level equivalent to Monterey County's Account Clerk
  • Or two years of experience equivalent to Monterey County's Patient Financial Services Specialist Representative I
Working Conditions

Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays. Employment is contingent upon acceptable documentation verifying identity and authorization for employment in the United States.
