Position Overview:

The primary role of this position is to deliver spiritual guidance and pastoral care, encompassing the full spectrum of sacraments and rituals relevant to the faith community.

The Chaplain will facilitate religious services and provide both group and individual support to meet the spiritual needs of the Attic Angel Community, including residents, their families, staff, and volunteers, in alignment with the mission and values of Attic Angel.

Collaboration with team members is essential to enhance the well-being of residents.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Facilitation of Religious and Spiritual Activities (60%):
  • Organize, prepare, and lead religious services tailored to resident preferences, in coordination with the Life Enrichment Director and Spiritual Committee.
  • Ensure that services accommodate residents of diverse faiths and beliefs, allowing participation at various ability levels.
  • Engage with local faith communities to recruit volunteers for religious offerings, particularly in areas where resources may be limited.
  • Gather resident feedback to assess and enhance programming effectiveness.
  • Maintain necessary supplies for successful service offerings.
  • Collaborate with the Life Enrichment team to communicate available spiritual offerings.
  • Assist families in planning memorial services as needed.
  • Act as a representative of the religious community within the broader Attic Angel Community.

2. Individual and Specialized Support (20%):
  • Provide support to families and staff during the passing of residents, which may include bedside memorials.
  • Facilitate grief support groups.
  • Offer one-on-one counseling as required.
  • Engage with residents to help them express their feelings and explore the significance of their experiences.
  • Lead caregiver support groups.

3. Documentation (10%):

Maintain accurate records related to residents' spiritual goals in their Individual Service Plans (ISP), including attendance at worship services and individual visits. Ensure written communication is sent to families upon a resident's passing.


4. Education (10%):

Coordinate educational opportunities for the Attic Angel Community to learn about various religions and practices, fostering respect and inclusivity. Provide training for staff to navigate end-of-life situations with sensitivity.


Additional Responsibilities:

Assist in other areas as directed. Attend in-service training and approved continuing education programs, including any required certification trainings.


Qualifications:

Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Counseling, or a related field is required.

Preferred experience includes five years in a retirement community, hospice, or hospital setting serving older adults.

Key skills include profound spiritual knowledge, excellent interpersonal abilities, compassion, empathy, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and strong communication skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, establish trust, and efficiently manage tasks under pressure, particularly in end-of-life situations, is essential.


Licenses and Certifications:

Must be an Ordained Pastor in good standing from an accredited program and have completed at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.
