The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver spiritual guidance and pastoral care, encompassing the full spectrum of religious rites and practices.
The Chaplain will offer religious services, as well as group and individual support, tailored to the needs of the Attic Angel Community, including residents, their families, staff, and volunteers, in alignment with the organization's mission and values.
Collaboration with team members is essential to enhance resident support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facilitation of Religious and Spiritual Activities (60%):
- Organize, prepare, and lead religious services that reflect the preferences of residents, in coordination with the Life Enrichment Director and Spiritual Committee.
- Ensure that services are inclusive, allowing participation from residents of diverse faiths and beliefs, accommodating varying levels of ability.
- Establish connections with local faith communities to recruit volunteers for religious offerings, addressing any gaps in knowledge or resources.
- Gather feedback from residents to ensure that programming meets their spiritual needs.
- Maintain necessary supplies for successful service delivery.
- Collaborate with the Life Enrichment team to communicate offerings effectively.
- Assist families with memorial service arrangements as needed.
- Act as a representative of the religious community within the broader Attic Angel Community.
2. Individual and Specialized Support (20%):
- Provide support to families and staff during the passing of a resident, which may include bedside memorials and on-call availability.
- Facilitate grief support groups.
- Offer one-on-one counseling as required.
- Engage with residents to help them express their feelings and explore the significance of their experiences.
- Lead caregiver support groups.
3. Documentation (10%):
Ensure accurate documentation related to residents' spiritual goals in their Individual Service Plans (ISP), including attendance at worship services and individual visits. Coordinate written communication to families upon a resident's passing.
4. Educational Initiatives (10%):
Organize opportunities for the Attic Angel Community to learn about various religions and practices, fostering respect and inclusivity for diverse cultures and beliefs. Provide staff education to navigate end-of-life and death situations.
Additional Responsibilities:
Support and assist in other areas as directed. Attend in-service training and approved continuing education programs, completing any required certification training.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, Spirituality, Counseling, or a related field.
Preferred experience includes five years in a retirement community, hospice, or hospital setting serving older adults.
Strong spiritual knowledge, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy are essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and effective communication and presentation skills are required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish trust, along with strong organizational skills to perform tasks efficiently under pressure, especially in end-of-life situations.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must be an ordained pastor in good standing from an accredited program and have completed at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.
