The Radiation Therapy Specialist is responsible for the precise localization of tumors under the supervision of the physician, engaging in treatment planning and administering high doses of ionizing radiation to patients as per the directives from Radiation Oncologists.

This position ensures adherence to all protocols and best practices before and during treatment delivery, while also assessing the patient daily for any adverse effects, reactions, and therapeutic responses.

The specialist independently operates advanced equipment such as Agility, VersaHD, or TomoHD, which includes the warm-up, shut down, and operational procedures. They contribute to decisions regarding suitable simulation techniques and treatment positioning. Verification of treatment plans and the mathematical accuracy of prescriptions and daily treatment summaries is essential. Quality imaging is produced to ensure optimal viewing results, while strict compliance with radiation safety regulations is maintained to minimize patient exposure during CT imaging procedures. The quality of block fabrication is also ensured.

Determining when to defer treatment until a physician is consulted, as well as establishing a course of action in emergency or problematic situations, is a critical responsibility.

Information regarding radiation therapy procedures, including proper skin care, dietary recommendations, and self-care practices, is provided to patients and their families as necessary.

Electronic documentation of quality assurance activities (chart rounds), procedures, and results is maintained in accordance with established guidelines. Participation in the continuous quality improvement process is expected. On-call coverage is assigned as needed. Additional duties may be performed as required.

Education and Experience Required: Associate's Degree; Preferred: Bachelor's Degree. License Required: Licensed by the California Department of Health Services as a Radiologic Technologist (Therapeutic) and licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy or equivalent as recognized by the ARRT.
